Nonprofit organizations that meet the Trust’s eligibility guidelines and whose missions align with the Trust’s program areas may be awarded grants.
Trust staff works with organizations to determine the term of the grant and whether grant funds can be leveraged in the community by structuring a challenge or matching grant.
In addition to responding to grant requests, the Trust proactively seeks opportunities to award grants for specific programs that fit within its grantmaking priorities. It also has special initiatives that have communitywide impact within each of its program areas.
While each grant request is considered on its own merit, The Trust seeks to invest in nonprofits and programs that have the greatest impact on Maricopa County residents within the following categories:
Programmatic Grants
Programs that incorporate best practices or pilot proven models that may have broader applicability are of special interest to the Trust. Additionally, programs that improve service delivery systems and collaborative projects are more likely to receive funding.
Capital Campaigns
Capital campaign grants are determined on a case-by-case basis, but typically represent between 5 and 10 percent of the total campaign. Grant awards for endowments are made rarely and are the most difficult to obtain.
Operating Expenses
The Trust supports designated operating expenses but does not support expenses that expand the organization’s mission in an attempt to secure funds, replace public funds or support undesignated ongoing operations.
Other Grants
The Trust supports grants outside its grantmaking priorities that have a broad impact on the community. These grant requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
